My goal is to provide a caring, supportive and non-judgmental environment to help you find a way through any difficulties you may be facing in your relationship. We will work together to discover and identify the underlying issues or problems you are facing. You will learn new ways to interact, to become a team, to gain empathy and compassion for yourself and for your partner. Discover more about yourself and about your partner and gain strength together. Learn new ways to interact, relate, and communicate.
Couples therapy may be the start of a longer process of discovery or it can serve as a needed boost through a rough patch. When the events of everyday life are putting a strain on your relationship, couples counseling can help. There is hope. Don't give up. Rediscover why you fell in love. Learn how to connect and communicate. Rebuild trust and learn healthy boundaries. Learn about yourself and about your partner. Get to know what you and your partner need from the relationship and how to support both your needs.
You may have developed unhealthy or destructive patterns. Let me help you learn to work collaboratively to foster a caring relationship. I work to support and guide couples to understand each other and to develop deeper and happier connections.
What to expect: I use Relational Life Therapy (RLT) when I work with couples. This is a directive couples and family approach that is geared toward understanding miscommunication, misdirection, and mistaken relational interactions that lead to conflict and disharmony. I work with couples to identify underlying beliefs, thoughts, feelings, and sometimes trauma that lead to repeated dysfunctional patterns. Sometimes RLT couples therapy requires individual sessions. (These are done with the couples therapist one-on-one.) RLT therapy includes work similar to Internal Family Systems therapy in recognizing the impact of stressors and/or traumas on couples and families. I also integrate other modalities, such as Somatic Experiencing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Narrative Therapy.
